Healthy Weight Nurses
The Healthy Weight Nurses are specialists in assessing children and young people aged 2-16 years old who are above their ideal weight and can identify the key lifestyle areas for change when working with a family. We aim to support children to grow into a healthy weight.
The Healthy Weight Nurse Team consists of 3 part-time trained nurses each covering one locality of Bristol – North, Central and South.
Who we work with
We aim to work with the whole family to identify small dietary and physical activity behaviours that could be targeted to make their lifestyle healthier. We work with families who are not able to attend other weight management groups for children and who require more intensive support at home.
To access our service a child must be referred by a Health Professional and fulfil the following entry criteria:
Child has a BMI (Body Mass Index) > 98% centile
BMI 91 – 98% centile with no improvement following support from their GP, School Nurse, Health Visitor or Paediatric Consultant.
BMI 91 – 98% centile and not able to engage with GP, School Nurse or Health Visitor. The family should also be assessed as ready to change.
