An app which helps parents to choose healthier snacks for their children has been launched today to tackle childhood obesity.
According to the latest National Childhood Measurement Programme, more than a quarter of children aged four to five, and 40 per cent of 10-11-year-olds are overweight or obese.
The Department of Health and Social Care’s Office for Health Improvement and Disparities (OHID) has launched the campaign to help families reduce their consumption of foods which are high in sugar and saturated fat.
The Better Health Food Scanner App makes it easier for parents to find healthier food and drink for their children by offering alternatives.
By scanning the barcode on a product, you can see how much sugar, saturated fat and salt are in your favourite snacks and drinks.
The app offers healthier alternatives to the product, as well as providing tips and recipes. You can download the NHS Food Scanner App from the Apple app store, or Google Play.
