Who We are and Who We Work With
Clinical Psychologists in disability work alongside multi-disciplinary colleagues in Community Child Health with children and young people who are referred with complex developmental conditions.
Qualified Clinical Psychologists are registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) - www.hcpc-uk.org
What We Do
Clinical Psychologists deal with a range of emotional, behavioural, developmental and mental health problems in children and young people. Psychologists will undertake a clinical assessment to investigate the situation of the child, young person and their family. Assessments involve a variety of approaches including interviews with individual children and young people, families and sometimes other people who are closely involved. Psychologists also carry out observations and may use questionnaires and psychometric tests.
Clinical Psychologists are scientist practitioners applying a range of theoretical models and findings from research to the understanding of developmental disorders and mental health problems.
How To Get Our Help
Clinical Psychologists will see children and young people with disabilities who have been referred by other members of the Community Child Health Service such as Community Paediatricians.
Clinical Psychologists may specialise in the assessment of social communication difficulties such as Autism Spectrum Condition. They may also work with children and their families on coping with the psychological impact of the child or young person’s disabling condition.
Where You Will Be Seen
Children, young people and their families may be seen in locality clinics. Psychologists may also visit the home or the school according to the young person’s needs.
We are based at the following locality clinics: Westgate House, Osprey Court, Knowle Clinic, Eastgate House, Kingswood Locality Hub and Patchway Specialist Childrens Centre. Please explore the ‘Visiting CCHP’ sections for details of these bases.
