Every family with a pre-school child (from birth to five years) is allocated to a Health Visiting team.
Your midwife will automatically refer you to a Health Visitor. If you move to a new area and register with a GP, you will be given a new Health Visitor.
Your Health Visitor will help you and your family to be healthy, both emotionally and physically. They will provide practical support and confidential health advice.
Your Health Visitor will contact you after 28 weeks of pregnancy to offer you and your partner an antenatal contact.
Your Health Visitor will then contact you again to meet your new baby between 11-14 days old to review any family health plans and again when your baby is aged between six to eight weeks.
You will then meet a member of the Health Visiting team for a routine review of your child and family’s health needs when your child is between 9-12 months and again between two and two and a half years. A member of the Health Visiting team may meet you more often if you need extra help and support. You can refer yourself into the service if you require further advice or support at any time.
