Planned appointments
Pregnant women are allocated a named health visitor who will make appointments at the following stages:
Antenatal appointment after 28 weeks
This appointment provides an opportunity for the health visitor to build a relationship with the expectant mother and family before the baby arrives.
Health and wellbeing and preparing for parenthood will be discussed at this initial appointment.
New birth visit by 14 days
This appointment usually takes place at the family home and aims to support and develop parenting skills and confidence. The following are discussed:
- Infant feeding
- Relationship support
- Maternal health and wellbeing
- Keeping your baby safe
- Healthy weight
- Promoting your baby's development
Six-eight week review
This appointment may take place at the family home or clinic. The following are discussed:
- Feeding
- Your mental health
- Health topics
- Parenting
- Healthy eating and activity
- Accident prevention
- Baby play
- Cleaning of teeth and going to the dentist
- Signposting to children's centres and support networks.
One year review
This appointment may take place at the family home or clinic. The following are discussed:
- Your baby's physical, emotional and social needs
- Language and learning
- Keeping your baby safe
- Teeth brushing and going to the dentist
- Healthy eating
- Your mental health.
Two year school readiness review
This appointment may take place at the family home or clinic. The following are discussed:
- General development including: movement, speech, social and emotional skills
- Hearing and vision
- Healthy eating
- Keeping active
- Managing behaviour
- Teeth brushing and going to the dentist
- Keeping your child safe

- Postnatal Group (for first-time parents)
General topics: weaning, sleeping, play and an infant first session. If you are interested in attending please contact the health visiting team on 01934 852927 for further details. - Well Baby Clinics
Well Baby Clinics are held in most areas within the community, usually Children's Centres. These clinics are open to all families. Health visitors can provide details of days, times and venues. - Drop in Baby Clinics- The last hub until after Christmas will be on Wednesday 21 December 2022 at The Barn, Clevedon. Hubs will then start again on Tuesday 3 January 2023 at Yeo Valley Children’s Centre.
