The Hospital CAMHS - Young People’s Mental Health Assessment Team - are based at Southwell Street, behind Bristol Children's Hospital.
We are part of the Women and Children’s Directorate at North Bristol NHS Trust, sited within specialist CAMHS services.
Who The Young People's Mental Health Assessment Team Work With
The service is for young people up to their 18th birthday presenting at the Bristol Royal Infirmary, Bristol Children’s Hospital and Southmead Hospital Bristol with self harm or urgent mental health concerns. Young people under 16 who present to Weston Hospital will be transferred to Bristol Children’s Hospital.
What We Do
We provide a responsive service offering a comprehensive mental health assessment and follow up, where appropriate, to children and young people. The Young People's Mental Health Assessment Team supports children, young people, their families and carers during crisis situations, providing risk assessments, coping strategies and identifying support systems. We work closely with medical, nursing and social work teams across the hospitals and also have established links with the Adult Mental Health Liaison teams. We have strong links with community CAMHS teams and other services involved in the well being of children and young people.
For young people in the Bristol and South Gloucestershire areas, we may also offer up to six follow up sessions, as appropriate. This may be to support the young person until they engage with local CAMHS services or to complete a short, brief intervention.
