Coronavirus: Service changes
In light of the current COVID-19 outbreak and in response to NHS guidelines on the prioritisation of health care services, we have made the difficult decision to suspend the majority of our face-to-face work for the time being. Contact with families will instead take place over the telephone, wherever possible. This page will continue to be updated with any changes to service provision as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.
Changes to services
Community Paediatrics Services in Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire are currently only accepting urgent GP referrals.
With the support of risk assessments to protect you and families, we are pleased that we will be seeing new babies at 10-14 days in their own homes over the coming weeks.
Bristol services restart on 23 July, with South Gloucestershire and North Somerset to follow suit from 3 August. Other routine contacts in pregnancy and at 8 weeks old, as described in The Healthy Child Programme, will restart either face-to-face or by digital methods from 3 August too.
The two other routine contacts at 9-12 months and 2 years will stay by telephone or by video consultation throughout August, and will then be reviewed.
Family Nurse Partnership
The Family Nurse Partnership, which operates in Bristol only, is offering face-to-face visits for their teenage families. For children in care across BNNSG, face-to-face contacts for children under 7 are also supported, again by a face-to-face statutory assessment.

In addition to the restoration of specific Health Visiting services listed above, we are also offering the following provision:

Sirona care & health, Children’s Hospice South West and Jessie May are working together to meet the urgent and essential needs of the families that we care for through this challenging time. Our first priority is to ensure that children remain cared for and supported in the community wherever possible and appropriate.
Speech and Language Therapy
Following guidance from central government, some of our regular clinical activities will be paused until further notice. This includes:
- Early Years Advice Drop ins
- Training Sessions
- Group therapy sessions and support groups
- All school based activities
Safeguarding medical assessments will continue to take place, but these will be carried out at Eastgate House rather than in Bristol Children’s Hospital.
Telephone advice and information service
From Monday 23 March, we will be running a dedicated telephone advice and information service for families currently receiving care from Community Children’s Health Partnership (CCHP) teams.
These phone lines will run until further notice, and will be staffed from 9am to 4pm, Monday to Friday (unless stated otherwise). For health information and advice about coronavirus, please go to the NHS 111 website in the first instance.
