Update on EMIS roll out to school nurses in Bristol and South Glos

As part of our ongoing drive to offer the best possible care to all our service users we are rolling our EMIS to our school nursing teams in both South Gloucestershire and Bristol.

EMIS is an electronic records system which will allow us to share details of our service users with each other and make them accessible, where appropriate, to their GPs and other healthcare professionals.

The cloud-based system is used successfully across Sirona and in healthcare providers beyond and has made healthcare more effective for service users, ensuring clinicians have access to the right data at the right time.

We are taking a phased approach to this change, with South Glos school nurses starting to use the cloud-based electronic records system on Monday October 4. While our Bristol school nurses will make the move in November 15.

If you are a school nurse or admin support for a school nursing team, in these areas, you should have been invited to attend training sessions, which are being provided in a classroom environment, this is being delivered at three locations in South Glos. – Kingswood Hub, Patchway Hub and Yate Westgate Centre.

The training is based on learning how to use EMIS and get an understanding of the system based on how you will be using it in your role admin or clinical.

The move to this electronic systems is another step forward for our provision of Children’s Services across Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire.

Stephanie Stallard, Digital Programme Manager, is leading the project. She said: “This is an important step forward for our provision of nursing services in schools.

“The change will benefit our service users, by ensuring their records are accessible, as appropriate, across our Children’s Services and clinicians in our partner organisations.

“We strive to ensure we offer the same level of service to everyone we meet in our professional lives, as we would want our own family to receive.

“This step forward to using electronic records for school nurses will enhance our ability to deliver this high level of care.”
